You Cant Know Where to Go

You Can’t Know Where To Go (’till you know where you came from)

They searched in ancient India for clues to worlds beyond,

Searched in foreign lands for the potions and the charms.

Came from far and wide to find the mathematical sum,

But you can’t know where to go, ’till you know where you came from.

Tried to track you down in Katmandu but you’d flown the coop to Rome,

Lights were on inside your head, but nobody was home.

Endless trails of rental cars, investments in cheap rum,

But you can’t know where to go, ’till you know where you came from.

When you make the big escape, there’s nothing more to say,

Take a look at what you’ve left, before you run away.

Seminars in San Fran, conventions in Chi Town,

Tried a farm for meditation, human lost and found.

They told you, you belong right here as they beat the drum,

But you can’t know where to go, ’till you know where you came from.

Found you selling roses on the service road of life,

Got your mind caught in the thorns, need some new advice.

Every week another search left you feeling numb,

But you can’t know were to go, ’till you know were you came from.

Tried to show you who you are, you said you could not stay,

Take a look at what you’ve left, before you run away.

Searching for your destiny, you can say you’ve found your niche,

Unless your past is understood, you might hit a glitch.

Rich man, Poor man, Beggar, Thief, when all is said and done,

You can’t know where to go,’till you know where you came from.
