Smoke From The Altar

Smoke on the Altar
Parody of Smoke on the Water – Deep Purple – 1972

We all came to Mount Carmel
And we looked at the skyline
Praying for rain was in our profile
Had none for 3 years time
King Achav and his false prophets
And all Israel gathered round
To see who was the real God
A test would take place on this ground

Smoke from the altar, and fire from the sky

They set up their praying house
They cried and they jumped around
But no clouds, Elijah said please shout
Perhaps your God cannot be found
And when the day was over
Eliyahu took his place
He swished water all about
He knew God wouldn’t leave a trace

Smoke from the altar, and fire from the sky

We all yelled God is all powerful
Returned to Him right then and there
But with the twelve round stones
Symbolizing twelve tribes
He made the message clear
Now a coolish sight a new cloud ahead
He prayed and we all got wet
And when we think back on this
Our God, our God we’ll never forget.

Smoke from the altar, and fire from the sky
